A few Shenandoah graduate degrees and departments offer select students the opportunity to be Graduate Assistants. These assistantships can provide a full or partial tuition waiver, small stipend, or housing.
Graduate Assistants are selected by program directors, not by the Office of Financial Aid. Questions about assistantships should be directed contact person listed for each position, not the Office of Financial Aid.
Two types of assistantships are available:
Graduate Assistantship, both full and partial, are awarded to masters, doctoral, and artist diploma students. The award (which includes full or partial tuition and a stipend) is renewable for up to three years and is contingent on satisfactory academic progress and the recommendation of the immediate supervisor.
DMA/Artist Diploma (Post-Master’s) Teaching Assistantships are awarded to doctoral and artist diploma students and consist of a full tuition waiver and a $9000 annual stipend. The award is renewable for three years and is contingent on satisfactory academic progress and the recommendation of the immediate supervisor.
Shenandoah Conservatory strongly recommends that all entering students submit a FAFSA to the Shenandoah University Office of Financial Aid.
The School of Business offers both full and half graduate assistantships. These are only available for the Fall and Spring semesters.
Two types of assistantships are available:
Full Assistantship
A full assistantship covers the students full tuition (9 credit hours). The Assistant is required to work 20 hours per week. A small monetary stipend that is distributed directly to the student throughout the semester.
Half Assistantship
A half assistantship covers half of the student’s tuition (4.5 credit hours).The Assistant is required to work 10 hours per week. A small monetary stipend that is distributed directly to the student throughout the semester.
There are a limited number of slots. Applications must be submitted to be considered for a position by the deadlines stated on the application. Students must be accepted into the program prior to applying (access to the application form is restricted to users with an SU email account). Students must be enrolled full-time (minimum of 9 credits) in the semester they apply for.
Applications will be considered for a number of factors to include, but not limited to, experience, academic merit, and financial need.
The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement is hiring a student activities graduate assistant position. This is a 10 month commitment with a stipend for an expected 25 hours of work per week.
The Student Activities Graduate Assistant is a position for a Shenandoah University graduate student who will serve as a member of the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE) staff and work with a variety of student employees. The Student Activities Graduate Assistant contributes to the mission of Shenandoah University and its Division of Student Affairs by developing co-curricular programs that create community, help students develop a sense of belonging, and promote social and emotional well-being. The graduate assistant will have the opportunity to work as a professional to learn about organizational leadership in a higher education setting and develop critical thinking and decision making skills.

The Office of Admissions, On-Campus Experience Team is seeking a graduate student employee for the position of Admissions On-Campus Experience Assistant for the 2024-25 academic year.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Act as second in command at the Admissions Welcome Center Front Desk
- Interview, train, and coordinate Hornet Ambassadors (Tour guides)
- Assist in the preparation and execution of Admissions recruitment events
